Very warm Pacific greetings,
The Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers (ANZASW) looks forward to welcoming you to the first joint Asia Pacific Regional Conference of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) and the Asia Pacific Association for Social Work Education (APASWE) to be held in Auckland, New Zealand, in November 2009.

ANZASW is a longstanding member of IFSW and an active participant in IFSW activities. We value our international connections and are honoured that in 2009 the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference will be held in New Zealand.
Holding this auspicious IFSW conference in conjunction with the APASWE promises to create an event that will be a particularly special occasion. Many people are working very hard to ensure that this will be an event to remember.
The theme for the conference – Many voices, Many communities, Social justice for all – speaks well of the aspirations we hold as a profession, and of the ethical base that underpins social work.
We are excited by the focus that this international event will bring to our profession and of the opportunity it presents to promote social work to a wider audience.
As our guests in November 2009 we look forward to providing you with the best of hospitality and a unique professional social work experience. Aotearoa New Zealand is a fantastic tourist destination and is a safe and secure country. We hope that you will take the opportunity to enjoy our stunning scenery and country as part of your trip to the conference.
On behalf of the Conference organisers we end this opening welcome with a traditional Maori whakatauki (proverb):
| He aha te mea nui o te Ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata |
What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people. It is people. |
Until we meet.
Kia tau to rangimarie.
Rose Henderson, President, ANZASW
